Mobile Distraction Sensory Toy for the Children's Assessment Centre

The Honey Bears specialist unit at Kent and Canterbury Hospital’s Children’s Assessment Centre were delighted to receive the mobile distraction sensory toy with funds raised by the Canterbury Golf Club. The machine, consisting of a tall glass case in which balls bubble up in water, lit by colours chosen by the operator, soothes the nerves of the young children who attend the centre for specialist treatment. The bubbles and calming music distracts them. The effect is so successful that treatments can often be carried out without the young patients being aware. League of Friends’ Chairman Viv Pritchard said the Golf Club’s fundraising was “a fantastic effort”, a view echoed by League President and Canterbury Lord Mayor, Cllr Rosemary Doyle.
